I was born in 1992, which sometimes makes me second guess if I can even be considered a 90s baby. But my doubts regarding my age and generation aside, I’m a sucker for 90s inspired everything. The Essie Fall 2017 collection has six nineties inspired new polish shades and there is sure to be a hue for you.
The collection of six shades ranges from sweet baby pink to a grungy gunmetal duochrome. The first thing that came to mind when seeing these shades wasn’t neccessarily ‘fall’. I tend to go for slightly darker shades during the colder months, or warmer colours. But it’s a nice change. My girly heart even skipped a beat when seeing that perfect pink shade.
Plus the names are so adorable that they had me sold in a split second. I mean, Clueless inspired names? Sign. Me. Up.
On nail swatches of the Essie 2017 Fall Collection can be seen below in the nifty little slider gallery. Along with a slightly more detailed description of the six shades.
Swatches of the Essie Fall 2017 collection
Saved by the Belle – Described as a light baby pink with a subtle blue undertone on the Essie website. They certainly hit the nail on the head with that description. This cool toned pink covers beautifully in two coats, a rarity for light pink shades.
Knee-high life – My favourite out of this collection. This shade looks much pinker in the bottle than it does on the nail. Shown on my nails with just one coat, but upon layering this becomes a gorgeous deep wine-red. Pretty enough to make me crave a good merlot.
Dressed to the nineties – A dark purple with a green shimmer. Sadly the green shimmer nearly disappears on the nail and hardly photographs at all. This is one of those shades that looks better in the bottle than on the nail. But if dark polish is your thing, then this is the one for you!
Mixetaupe – Described on the site as a warm ivory with a dash of pink. What I was most surprised about was how easy it is to get opaque. With previous nude and ivory polishes from Essie I always struggled with tons of coats before I got decent coverage. The formula has just the right amount of thickness and applies beautifully creamy. I’ll definitely wear this one often.
Girly Grunge – I’m a sucker for metallics, but somehow this one just does not do it for me. I thought it was difficult to apply without it appearing streaky, something I completely failed at looking at the swatch. It looks gorgeous in the bottle, but I’m not a fan of it on the nail.
As If!– Subtle nod to my all time favourite movie character, Cher Horowitz. Sign me up! This gorgeous periwinkle blue reminds me of a suit I saw in Zara this season that I have been absolutely drooling over. However, it does kind of remind me of the existing Essie shade ‘Bikini so teeny‘. So it’s not the most original shade, but it sure is pretty!
What do you think of these six shades from the Essie Fall 2017 nail polish collection. But even more important.. what is your favourite nineties chick flick?
